March Madness Random Check-In! #WIPMadness

How are the writing goals going, March Madders?

I can't say I've been having a super-easy March, so far, but I have been writing! I finished my first revision project a day later than anticipated, and have since been working on a revision of my second project, a book I haven't looked at in almost a year. It's fairly normal for me to struggle getting into a new project, and that was definitely the case with this one (especially since the first order of business was completely rewriting the beginning! Worse than a blank slate, for me, is having a completed project with a complete vision that you have to take and somehow tear apart and start from scratch with.)

Anyway, I'm proud to say I have been plugging away, despite my lack of feeling "in the groove." And actually, come to think of it, I'm feeling a little more in the groove each day now. So apparently perseverance works for something!

How about you? Are you still working away at your proposed project? Or did you switch it up to work on something else? Or were you just sitting around, refreshing your screen, waiting for this incredibly inspirational post to spur you on?

  1. March has already been so busy and it's only been a week. Sounds like you're easing into your story Denise.

I finished reading my beta critiques on my story and I need to sit on it for a while. Some things struck a chord of 'fix that right away' and others are more of a 'I didn't intend that, now what'. I also have some vastly opposing opinions from people on certain characters. Sigh.

I entered a twitter contest this week, so I've been glued to the twitter feed. I learn from them, but I doubt I'll ever be successful at them.

I only edited one chapter of my fantasy so far, but it is progress. I hope the week has gone well for everyone else.

    1. Ugh, conflicting opinions. I hear you! Sometimes you just have to sit with them a while to hone in on what rings most true for you. All the best with the Twitter contest!

  2. I thought I'd get more done last week, since it was much quieter around here than it had been over the past few months. But there are still distractions and I don't seem to be very good at ignoring them. Still, I've reworked one chapter, and the new version is giving me a better run at what's coming next.

Glad to hear you're making progress. Keep slogging along. :)

    1. Good for you getting started, Carol, and I'm glad to hear you're getting some vision for the project. Sometimes a quiet house, I find, actually works against my motivation. Sometimes I need to feel like I'm fighting for my writing time in order to get much done.

  3. Slow progress here, but it's still good -- working through the "pre-writing" stage of a new project, which for me means lots of brainstorming and mulling and staring off into the distance. I'm antsy to be writing, though, and hope to be putting new words down next week.

    1. I think you're in a good place, Shari - antsy to be writing. Once you let loose, no doubt the words will pour out!
