Would You Rather Wednesday (Reader's Edition)

It's been a while since we've played this game! The only rule is, you can't answer either or neither. You must pick one! Leave your answers in the comments and I'll be back later with mine.

Would you rather... Read a book set in an extremely historic time period, or one set in an extremely futuristic time period (1000 years or more)?

Would you rather... Read a novel where the main character is a bit too sweet, or a bit too mean?

Would you rather... Read a book that's very entertaining but poorly written, or one that's beautifully written but a bit on the boring side?

  1. futuristic period

    mean! it's more interesting.

Hmmmmm... that's tough. I guess the poorly written one cuz then I could make fun of it in my mind but enjoy it and think about how I would improve it.

  2. 1. Futuristic for sure. I love dystopian/sci-fi/post-apocolyptic but I never seem to get into historicals for some reason.
    2. Too sweet. Because I think being nice gets you farther in life.
    3. This one's tough. They'd probably both annoy me so I guess I'd rather be entertained while being annoyed.

  3. I would much rather read a book written about a very old time period. While I think futuristic is interesting, I'm not as into it.

  4. extremely historic

    too mean

entertaining -- this one was a very tough call! At first I was going to pick beautiful writing, but I know I tend to set aside books I find boring, despite lovely writing. An entertaining-but-poorly-written one I'd be more likely to keep reading, if I could keep myself from throwing it against the wall. ;)

  5. crazy historic

    too mean *always fun!*

And as tough as this third question is, I'll have to agree with the first - very entertaining. As beautiful as a book is written, I still can't see past the boring factor.

  6. remote, too mean, beautifully written. I recently tossed aside a shoddily written thriller.

  7. Futuristic, for sure.

Too nice can come off as unrealistic, so I'll lean toward mean.

I agree, the last one is toughest...In truth, I'd pick compelling characters over writing or plot, but that's not a choice, so I'd have to say poor writing is way more annoying to me than a slow plot.

  8. I'm back with my answers!

I initially thought my answer to the first one would easily be futuristic, but as I thought about it more...wow, 1000 years ago? That's pretty intriguing! So I choose extremely historic.

A bit too mean - I agree, much more fun and interesting.

Everyone had such a hard time with this one, but honestly, it wasn't difficult for me at all. I admit it, I flew through TWILIGHT - twice. I like to be entertained. While there's another book, quite beautifully written, that I've been working my way through for close to five months now. So I pick entertaining, even if it is sloppily written.

Thanks so much for stopping by to weigh in with your thoughts, everybody!
