FOREIGN EXCHANGE is out today!

I'm thrilled to announce that my new young adult novel, FOREIGN EXCHANGE, is officially available to the world today! I will update as I find out more about where digital and print copies are available, but right now I know for sure you can get digital copies on the Evernight Teen website and also on Amazon.

ETA: And the print version is now available here!

Here's a little more about the book:

Jamie Monroe has always played it safe. That is, until her live-for-the-moment best friend, Tristan, jets off to Italy on a student exchange program. Left alone with her part-time mother and her disabled brother, Jamie discovers that she is quite capable of taking her own risks, starting with her best friend’s hotter-than-hot older brother, Sawyer. Sawyer and Tristan have been neighbors for years, but as Jamie grows closer to the family she thought she knew, she discovers some pretty big secrets.

As she sinks deeper into their web of pretense, she suspects that her best friend may not be on a safe exchange program at all. Jamie sets off to Europe on a class trip with plans to meet up with Tristan, but when Tristan stops all communication, suddenly no one seems trustworthy, least of all the one person she was starting to trust—Sawyer.

And here's what people are saying about FOREIGN EXCHANGE:

"Denise Jaden's newest novel, FOREIGN EXCHANGE, is a must read for contemporary YA fans. The characters leap off the pages and readers will furiously turn pages to keep up with the fast pace and intriguing premise. Definitely add a copy of Foreign Exchange to the top of your reading list."
~ Janet Gurtler, Rita Finalist and Best Selling Author of I'm Not Her

“I loved the well-drawn relationships in Foreign Exchange – the tension between Jamie and her mother, Jamie’s tenderness with disabled brother Eddy and especially the intense chemistry between Jamie and Sawyer. Their off-limits attraction and the increasingly dangerous hunt for his sister had me racing through the final chapters.”
~ Jen Nadol, author of The Mark, The Vision, and This is How it Ends

"Foreign Exchange takes you on a thrilling ride through the exotic streets of Europe into the dark side of the fashion world. Our charming heroine will stop at nothing to save her best friend. A sweet dose of romance keeps it light."
~ Lee Strauss - author of The Minstrel Series

"Foreign Exchange is a fresh contemporary YA that will keep readers compulsively turning pages until the very end. Combining international intrigue with a steamy forbidden romance makes for a can’t miss read."
~ Eileen Cook, author of Year of Mistaken Discoveries.

"A pitch perfect voice and delicious chemistry between the characters kept me turning those pages!"
~ Tara Kelly, author of Amplified and Encore

"Foreign Exchange is heart pounding and suspenseful...the teenage dream of escaping the boredom of suburbia by travelling Europe and spending quality time with a hot guy shifts into a dangerous nightmare."

~ D.R. Graham, author of Rank and the Noir et Bleu MC series.

"Denise Jaden is a force to be reckoned with! I loved her new book so much. This one is a thrill ride with full realized, lovable characters, and a refreshingly unique premise."
~ Rachel Shane, author of the upcoming Alice in Wonderland High

Have you seen the trailer yet? It's here too!

I hope you'll help me celebrate online today and help spread the word about my new book baby. All of my books are precious to me, but this one holds a special place in my heart and I'm so excited to finally be able to share it with others.

If you're local to Vancouver or the PNW, I will be signing print copies of FOREIGN EXCHANGE for the first time at the Surrey International Writer's Conference's Book Fair on Saturday, October 25th at 7 PM at the Sheraton Guildford hotel in Surrey, B.C. Admission is free, and you'll get to meet a lot of amazing authors, so I hope you'll stop by!

Thanks so much for celebrating with me! I hope you love FOREIGN EXCHANGE as much as I do :-)

LAUNCH DAY!!!

Here's a riddle. See if you can figure it out...

It's something for any fiction writers who write about any kind of loss (and doesn't EVERY character undergo losses of some kind?)

It's also great  for anyone who's facing personal grief and wants to better understand the grieving process.

It's a resource to keep on your shelf or e-reader and go back to, hopefully again and again.

It'll cost you the price of one latte. Could you live without one latte this week (and do you even know how many calories are in those things???)

Any guesses?

It's my new book, WRITING WITH A HEAVY HEART: Using Grief and Loss to Stretch Your Fiction and it's officially out today! Please tell your friends and help spread the word!

Here's a little bit more about the book:

In her first non-fiction mini-book, Denise Jaden explores the stages and outlets of grief and how to implement them into your fiction to create more interesting characters and a more engaging plot. Some topics of this book include: grieving before the loss, spiritual matters, and how grief affects different ages, personality types and gender.

Advance Praise for WRITING WITH A HEAVY HEART:

"Jaden's Writing With A Heavy Heart is a must-have for any writer's craft shelf. The combination of clear guidance and practical exercises allow writers to take their manuscripts to a deeper level."
- Eileen Cook Author of Unraveling Isobel and The Almost Truth

"Writing With A Heavy Heart absolutely nails the grieving process. I love the exercises included, because, to me, they make the whole thing a tangible help in applying it to a work in progress."
- Janet Gurtler, author of If I Tell and Who I Kissed

"Writing With A Heavy Heart has a lot of really good insights on grief and suggestions on how to incorporate them to fiction."
- Lee Strauss, author of The Perception Series

"Jaden's Writing with a Heavy Heart helped me add layers to my characters who experience loss. The tools provided in this piece make it practical in my writing projects."
- Cindy Callaghan, author of Just Add Magic and Purses, Palaces and Photographic Proof

If you'd like some bookmarks to help spread the word, send me your mailing address at d(at)denisejaden(dot)com with "bookmarks" in the subject line, and I'll be happy to send some your way.

Your next question may be (or at least I hope it is!): Where can I get my hands on a copy?

The paperback version is available at Create Space.
And also through Amazon. (The price is the same on both at $6.99)

The e-book is available for $2.99 at:
Amazon
Smashwords
Kobo
Diesel
Sony

And it will be coming soon to Barnes & Noble and iTunes (but you can pick up a copy that will work on pretty much any electronic reading device through Smashwords.)

Note: It is a workbook, including exercises, but all versions include a link where you can print the exercises for your own use, so don't let that deter you from the electronic version, if that is your preference.

Also, if you order a paperback and would like it signed, drop me a note and I can send you a signed bookplate for your copy.

I hope you'll help me spread the word, and if you purchase a copy, I hope it is revelatory to your writing or to your life. If you get something out of it, I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks so much for celebrating with me. Virtual champagne for everyone!!!

Something Very Special For Release Day!

Never Enough is in the wild! Of course I'm very excited, but I'm almost as excited about this special video I get to share with you today.

Self-esteem is an issue very close to me. I definitely didn't feel good enough as a teen, and still struggle with those feelings of inadequacy sometimes today. Several of my author friends took the time to chime in and talk about how they didn't feel good enough during their teen years.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch it. And again I'd like to say thank you to all of the authors involved and to all of those who have been so supportive of this video and of my new book, Never Enough.

Do you feel like you have trouble measuring up? See if your feelings match any of the authors in this video...

Share this video around and come back and tell me about it, and I'll enter your name to win some awesome boxes of books!

Never Enough Prize Vault!

Bookmark this page! You'll want to come back here over the next two weeks to swoon and dream and decide which prize pack you would most like to win! As I mentioned in an earlier post, Simon Pulse has been extremely generous in donating a whole lot of books to my prize vault to celebrate the release of Never Enough. It's time for a look at what's up for grabs...

Prize Pack A includes:

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

In case you missed it, that's THREE packs of five books. But that's not all! I have one grand prize box of books, and this is a very special box because it includes TWO celebrations! Half of the books are from Simon Pulse, or from my own bookshelf, and are celebrating the birth of NEVER ENOUGH. The other half of the books have been donated by my most amazing critique partner, Shana Silver, and I'd like to include those to celebrate a much more precious birth...the birth of her first baby!

Here's what the Grand Prize Pack includes...

White Cat by Holly Black
Wrapped by Jennifer Bradbury
Paper Towns by John Green
Fury by Elizabeth Miles
Perfect by Ellen Hopkins
The Season by Sarah MacLean

(not pictured because I'm sneaking in a quick read!)

I'm very excited about these upcoming couple of weeks and my chance to give away these fabulous prizes! The box sets can only go to someone with a U.S. mailing address, due to exorbitant international mailing costs, but because I SO HIGHLY VALUE my international readers as well, if I draw one of your names, you will still definitely get a prize (some extra-special Never Enough swag, or a book of your choice from Book Depository!)

Keep your eye on my blog in the coming days, as there will be lots of chances to enter to win these great gifts. If you see @shanasilver around Twitter, make sure to pass along your thanks and congratulations (at time of writing this, she has not gone into labor, but it could happen AT ANY MOMENT!).

And don't forget to come back! All the fun will be happening right here, between July 3-15th, as Shana welcomes her new bundle of preciousness and  I welcome my new book baby into the world!

Why I LOVE Simon Pulse (and why you should too!)

A little while ago, I spoke with my publicist from Simon Pulse about details of my launch for Never Enough. She was super-supportive, and when I asked if they might be willing to send me some books that I could use as an online launch party giveaway, she immediately said, "No problem!"

I asked for about ten - I thought that would make a nice prize pack for someone - but let me just say that she sent me WAY more than ten books, and they're awesome books at that!

Here's a shot of just the ones I could fit on my kitchen table...

So I'm deciding whether I should do multiple prize packs or one enormous prize pack. What do you guys think? (Remember there are lots more, this is just a sampling!) Also, and more importantly, which ones should I race through and try to read before I give them away???

Thank you Simon Pulse! You totally rock...every single one of you!

Launch Party Fun!

I'm finally getting a few pictures and videos uploaded from my launch party (thanks to Mindi Scott and my awesome brother!). It's been a busy week! I don't have the really nice pictures back from my photographer yet, but in the meantime, here are a few to show you what a great time it was...

This is how the day started:

These are my good friends from the Paul Tavai Polynesian Dancers (the group I also dance with). A pretty exciting way to kick-off a book launch!

From there, I went on to talk about my book and do a short reading. Because it was held in a museum/gallery, there's a bit of an echo on the video. Instead, if you're interested in seeing a short reading, the following is the exact same excerpt, as I read it yesterday for The Vancouver Sun's Raise A Reader program:

And then, for a very special treat, my friend Jerrica Santos (recording artist with Get Right Music AND former Canadian Idol finalist) came out to perform her new single, written especially for my event, written especially to go along with my book, entitled Losing Faith. It totally made me cry. Here's a little taste of that (again, sorry for the echo-y room!)

Just go ahead and tell me that's not THE COOLEST THING EVER!

And if that's not enough, the place was swarming with people, AND I had a lineup of people who wanted me to sign their books! I really felt like I was famous for about five minutes, until my husband reminded me there's still plenty of laundry to do at home :(

Oh! And the food! I can't forget that. I'll have to show you the gorgeous, homemade cupcakes later (no pictures yet) but here is the cake:

So as you can see, it was a really, REALLY amazing day! I'm so thankful to all the people who helped make it that way. I am so incredibly blessed! I only wish all of you could have been there too!

More pictures to come as soon as I have them...

My mailing address is:

My First choice of book pack: C
My Second choice of book pack: A

The second winner is...

lostinbelieving!

And our third and final winner...

minamostaza!

I'm so excited for all of you! Now get busy and email me your choices and address.

And I did record the drawing, for anyone who's interested in watching how very legitimately this was done!

If you've been part of the blog tour, but didn't win anything, please email me your address and I'll get a few little goodies out your way.

Congratulations to our winners and happy weekend to you all! I'm so excited about my local launch party this Sunday! If you'll be in the area, please stop by. Details are on my website at www.denisejaden.com

I'll be back with pictures next week!

Administration of a Blog Tour

I've had several people asking me how I put together my blog tour. The easy answer is...I don't know. Really it just came together somehow. I guess one thing I did was started to plan very early. When people asked me for interviews, even six months ago, I asked them if they'd like to hold off on posting it and be part of my official blog tour. All the blog owners were happy and excited to do this, so I just fit in a date that worked for both of us. I also asked some of my author-friends and critique partners if they'd like to host.

Some blog owners had a set of questions they had already compiled, and with some, I helped to come up with a theme that they could ask questions around. That helped add to the variety of the tour I think.

And then I came up with the idea of the Party Games. As I came up with new ideas, I'd just add them to my list, and by the time my blog tour came around, I had plenty of games for the 14 days. (In fact, I had to skip some. But don't worry, I'll still have those games a little later, just for fun.)

I wanted to make up a vlog of picking the winners for the grand prizes tomorrow, but to be honest, I haven't made a vlog in so long and I was feeling out of practice. So I made up a little practice video about how much work this tabulation process has been, among other things, just for fun.

I think the volume is a little low on this one, so you may want to turn up your volume before viewing. I'll try to fix that for tomorrow. You might notice that my hair is sopping wet. That's because I made time to have a shower before making this video. Have you been over to The Contemps site to hear about how we love over-sharing? Um, yeah. So this is the real me...

Enjoy! And see you tomorrow!

Oh, and just for fun, here's a picture of our cat (not really OUR cat, actually just one of the neighborhood cats we've "adopted" part-time into our home. This cat obviously knows something good when he sees it (LOL)...

And the Poetry Journal Goes to...

Remember way back on Day 2 of my blog tour, I had a poetry contest to win a poetry journal?

Well my two BFF's...they couldn't agree. Hmmm. So it looks like I'm giving away TWO POETRY JOURNALS!

Here are the winning poems. Enjoy! And if the winners could email me with their mailing addresses, I'll get them their poetry journals ASAP! (d (at) denisejaden (dot) com).

And for your enjoyment...here are the winning poems!

This one is from Cass...

I'm sorry, do I know you?
Is this the path you chose to take?
To make,
only to break--
what a mistake.

Estranged though we are,
two hearts remain beating against
one another,
Don't let this falling out marr
the love we once shared;
I just need to know you once cared.

Stirring,
whirring,
slightly burning;
I'm sorry I left it so late,
never could I hate
the one I used
to
appreciate.

I just wish you knew.

And this one's from Bee...

You and me
We'll forever be
Birds of the same feather
Who never flock together.
Rush of the same blood
Digging in the same mud,
Born apart
To the beating of one heart,
Spilling out words of love and hate
Yet forever the best of mates.
Now and forever
Call me whenever
I'll be there
Breathing in the same air.

Aren't those awesome?! Thanks so much to Kim and Shelly for judging, and congratulations again to Cass and Bee!

Swag-Fest on Day 12: The Tour. The Party.

The Online Party - I've been hearing some comments that the online party/blog tour is slightly confusing, so I thought I'd start each day from here on in with a mini-explanation. As you know, I'm celebrating the release of Losing Faith. Several blog owners are helping me celebrate by featuring me and/or my book on their blog between September 1-14. To encourage you to visit these blogs, I've tried first of all to make all the blog posts very fun and different, and secondly, I'm giving away three Grand Prizes (you can see the details of these on Day 1) All you have to do to enter to win these fabulous prizes is drop by the blogs (linked under "BLOG TOUR" below) and leave a quick comment on each of the blogs.  You get a separate entry for every blog you comment on, and you have until September 14th to comment on ANY of the blogs in the tour (so feel free to go back to Day 1 and comment right now!)

Besides the blog tour, I'm also having fun "Party Games" here each day, which can earn you extra entries for the Grand Prizes. Read on to find out about today's shenanigans...

Thank you so much for all of those who have been following The Tour! I'm sure you're getting tired by now, with all the running around I've asked of you, so today I'm going to make it really easy. Tell me in the comments your favorite type of swag (bookmarks, posters, magnets, stickers, postcards, t-shirts) and I'll randomly choose a winner and send them a little something special...

And don't forget about today's fabulous blog tour stop:

BLOG TOUR –  http://www.yascribe.blogspot.com – What’s really important? Stop by and find out!

Two more days...See you tomorrow!

Bookstores, Break-ups, and Book Trailers on Day 8: The Tour.

I'm busy tabulating to figure out who won the fabulous Tenner and Class of 2k10 Gift Packs. But in the mean time, I've had time to pick a winner for this fun Losing Faith hat:

And the winner is...

Minamostaza!!!

Please email me your address at d (at) denisejaden (dot) com and I'll get this hat in the mail to you!

Now...onto Today's Party Game: Tell me the name, city, and state of your favorite bookstore for an entry. If you know the first name of someone who works there, give me their name and I’ll throw them in the hat for the grand prize drawing as well!

Don’t forget to stop by at today’s really fun tour stops and comment for extra entries!

BLOG TOUR – http://mybignose.blogspot.com – Stop by and read my breakup story with my Class of 2k9 mentor, Sydney Salter!

BLOG TOUR - www.guidetoliteraryagents.com/blog - where my fab agent, Michelle Humphrey, picks apart my original query letter!

BLOG TOUR – http://www.thecontemps.com - The unveiling of the official Losing Faith book trailer on the brand new Contemps site!

And as a bonus, email me with your mailing address (d (at) denisejaden (dot) com) and tell me which tour stop you have enjoyed the most so far on this tour and I'll throw some extra party favors your way!

Spread The Faith on Day 7: Launch Day!!!

The Online Party - I've been hearing some comments that the online party/blog tour is slightly confusing, so I thought I'd start each day from here on in with a mini-explanation. I’m officially dubbing it “FAITH DAY!”

Ready, on the count of three, let’s all sing Happy Birthday to LOSING FAITH, as today is the day this book-baby is officially being delivered into the world!  One, two, THREE!

...You didn’t sing, did you? Okay, I understand, and yeah, I feel a little stupid, singing all by myself. But I feel so many other things too. Proud, of course, but also incredibly humbled. People are actually reading my book--my little book--and talking about it. It's completely surreal. I’m sure there will be many ups and downs in my future, even just with this one book, but today is a day for celebration. If you stocked up on yummy treats, please indulge with me!

Today I have a very special assignment for you, and yes, all of it will earn you extra entries for the Grand Prizes.

Blog or tweet your hopeful/faithful message with the hashtag #losingfaithbook (if it’s a blog post, make sure to drop by and tell me about it, so I can visit and add to your entries. If it’s on twitter, I’ll see it if you include the hashtag). I want to hear the message that YOU would want to hear if you were feeling down and lacking in hope for your future. It doesn't have to be anything grandiose, but just find some way to spread a little hope in the world today.

There are lots of great blogs to visit on the tour today! I know you all have lives, really I do, but take half an hour, celebrate with my friends around the Blogosphere. I promise, you won't regret it!

BLOG TOUR – Interview at http://saundramitchell.com/blog/?p=2655  - The Nine Spot – nine quick questions, nine quick answers. Do you think I prefer happy endings?

BLOG TOUR –My Launch Post is up at http://community.livejournal.com/classof2k10/24256.html . My journey into loss of faith and back again. (p.s. There are some extra-awesome prizes to be won here!)

BLOG TOUR – Interview http://misssnarksfirstvictim.blogspot.com – I had a great time doing a back and forth discussion for this interview (even though I STILL don’t know Authoress’s real first name!) Come and be a fly on the wall for our discussion!

BLOG TOUR – Faith Day challenge on http://thetenners.com It’s FAITH DAY at The Tenners too! Drop by and find out how you can spread the faith AND win some Awesome Tenner Books.

BLOG TOUR – Don’t forget to stop by http://www.fantasticbookreview.com to read their Sensational Seven Q&A with yours truly. Find out who I think should play ME in a movie about my life – LOL!

And a couple more things that are not offiicially on the tour (but are still lots of fun!):

Over on The Contemps website, we're having a discussion on Hot Topic Tuesday on Religion in YA! Be sure and stop by to add your thoughts!

And over at Tina's Book Reviews, there's another great review of Losing Faith!

I'm also being featured with an interview on AuthorsNow! today. (Tip - if you haven't picked up your copy yet, this one includes a giveaway of Losing Faith as well!)

Lots of blog-traveling to do today! But above all, have fun. Remember, that's what a party is all about, and I don't want to see any wallflowers sulking in the corners out there! Join the conversation here, around the blogosphere, or on Twitter. Party favors will be flying...

Come back and tell me the first name of the person you told for another entry. Plus, I’ll randomly pick one of today’s commenters to win a cool LOSING FAITH cap!

And Awesome Blogger Angel is having a Twitter Party today! Just tweet this phrase: "I want to read Losing Faith by Denise Jaden. #losingfaithbook" ...to enter to win a package of bookmarks!

Okay, one more mini-interview I found right here: http://childrenspublishing.blogspot.com/2010/09/in-stores-this-week-with-interviews.html And if you haven't noticed, it's a good idea to check back during the day, as I'm adding things as I come across them.

Tomorrow's the big day! Get your tasty treats ready, and I'll see you back here in the morning!
